MARCHWIGGIN IS A SUPERB LITTLE BOOK.... After the death of the great Prime Minister, Marchwiggin, a baby in his pram who wears a top hat, competes with the dreadful Dr. Purge for the Consituency of the River. He is helped by his nanny, Grace, and many different characters he meets on the way. They travel from Richmond, up to Twickenham and then all the way to Putney Bridge, visiting famous landmarks on the way. The book is astonishingly visual and full of wit. It is a kaleidoscope of imagery and, at times, great hilarity. But it has a serious underlying message about life, replete with spiritual, mythological and astrological allusions, that unravels as Marchwiggin and Grace journey along the great River Thames.
